Innovative options for information technology networking, mobile health apps, and AI-based personalized diagnostics and therapy emerging from the use of big data and machine learning will transform the healthcare system. This will be accompanied by fundamental modifications in the traditional relations between physicians and their patients, in managing health data, and also in prevention, diagnosis, and medical treatment. Based on a media analysis and semi structured interviews with relevant stakeholders, the perception of opportunities and risks, and the different interests, claims, concerns, and positions were surveyed and compared with perspectives in the expert debate. Having done the field work during the Covid-19-pandemic, our research also allows to show changes in public perceptions of and attitudes towards the digitization of the healthcare system as a consequence of the Corona pandemic. Enforced engagement and experiences with digital technologies, such as telemedicine, enhance and accelerate the openness to, and progress-oriented optimism of this digitalization.
